There’s absolutely no denying it, Disney World can be hot during the summer months. It can actually feel like you are standing on the surface of the sun (not even joking!). This oppressive heat can start as early as April and last until October. Here is how we stay cool at Disney World during those hot months!
1. Stay Hydrated!
It is extremely important to stay hydrated in the Floridian heat and humidity! Don’t wait until it’s too late. Exercise caution and just always have water on hand. I recommend carrying a collapsible water bottle with you so you can easily fill up with free water (read more about free water tips here!). If you or any members of your party are extremely sensitive to heat and humidity, then I also recommend powder pedialyte packets or powder electrolytes. These will boost your hydration by replacing any electrolytes lost when sweating. I always have them on hand!
2. Take an Afternoon Break
Taking an afternoon break is how we really stay cool at Disney World! We usually head back to the resort (another perk of staying on Disney property!) for my son (and husband!) to take a nap. Sometimes we shower, other times we hit the pool after naptime! Either way, this break during the hottest part of the day will be most welcome. You and your family will feel rejuvenated!
3. Create a Breeze!
Sometimes a little breeze make a huge difference! We always have a Clip On Stroller Fan with us. I recommend having 2 stroller fans- one for your child and one pointed at you! If you don’t have a stroller, a personal fan is great as well!
4. Wait in Line
You may be thinking to yourself “Kat, I don’t want to wait in any lines! That’s why I get FastPasses!”. Very true, but hear me out… When it is brutally hot and humid in Florida, you will need to soak up any and all air conditioning. If you are in between FastPasses or used them all up, then you’ll have to get in line for something! Here’s the trick, though. Look out for attractions that have indoor queues. My favorite attraction to get in line for is Frozen Ever After in Epcot. The stand-by line has a lot to look at and it is inside with air conditioning!
5. Go Inside
Another way we stay cool at Disney World is to go see one of the indoor shows or sit down attractions! I’ve compiled a list that are in some nice air conditioning for a while (ahhhhh!):
Animal Kingdom
Epcot
- O Canada! (World Showcase)
- Reflections of China (World Showcase)
- The American Adventure (World Showcase)
- Bijutsu-kan Gallery (World Showcase)
- Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival (World Showcase)
- Impressions de France (World Showcase)
- The entire Seas Pavilion (Future World)
- The entire Land Pavilion (Future World)
Hollywood Studios
- For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
- Lightening McQueen’s Racing Academy
- Disney Junior Dance Party!
- Voyage of the Little Mermaid
- Muppet*Vision 3D
- Walt Disney Presents
- Star Wars Launch Bay
Magic Kingdom
- Country Bear Jamboree
- Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
- The Hall of Presidents
- Mickey’s PhilharMagic
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
- Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
6. Walk through Stores
The walk through the Disney theme parks can be brutal, especially when battling crowds. Thus, I highly recommend walking through the stores! The Emporium at Magic Kingdom, for example, spans the length of Main Street. Its a great way to soak up the air conditioning. This is a great way to navigate the crowds as well!
7. Bring a Cooling Towel
Having something cool around your neck can feel so great in the heat! Bringing along a cooling towel is a great way to beat that Floridian heat. All you have to do is soak your towel in cold water, wring it out, and drape along your neck! If your towel gets warm, just repeat! Easy peasy and a great for cooling off. Disney does sell these in the parks, but most brands on Amazon sell multiple colors. That way each member of your family knows which one is theirs!
8. Wear Cool Clothing
What you wear can make a huge different in the sun! My family and I are always sure to wear very breathable, quick dry clothing. Amazon has some great choices when it comes to activewear for women, activewear for men, and activewear for kids. Just don’t forget to bring along that sunscreen for any exposed skin! You’re guaranteed to burn almost as quickly as you sweat in Florida.
9. Get Wet!
Disney World has 2 water parks on property: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. These will certainly help you and your family cool off on a hot Floridian day! However, if you’re in the theme parks and really want to cool off, head on over to one of the water rides. The best water rides for getting wet are Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom and Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom! Just be sure to grab your FastPasses because the water rides will be popular in the heat!
These are how we stay cool at Disney World! I hope they work well for you :). Be sure to check back on Thursday for another post!
Until next time… Cheers!!
Going to Disney is something I have on my ‘to-do’ list some time in the future, and as I hate being hot, this is exactly what I’d need to know before I went. Great info!
You’ll certainly have a blast at Disney! I’m glad the information was helpful!
Great tips! And useful for any amusement park ?
Thank you very much!
