Hi all!! Today we have some VERY important Disney World news about masks! So, we will take a brief break from our “best tips” series to talk about this. The changes to theme park mask policies come after the CDC loosened their recommendations for fully vaccinated people. Let’s find out more!
But before we continue, don’t forget to check out our best tips for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom!
On May 16, 2021, the CDC officially changed its recommendations for people who are fully vaccinated. Full vaccination is 2 weeks after either the second dose of a 2-part vaccine [Pfizer or Moderna] OR a dose of a single shot vaccine [Johnson & Johnson]. The CDC states:
Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
In response to the change in federal guidelines, Disney World updated their policy. The website now reads:
Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them in all indoor locations, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary and maintaining appropriate physical distancing. Face coverings are optional in outdoor common areas at Walt Disney World Resort, but are still required upon entering and throughout all attractions, theaters and transportation.
Face Coverings Throughout Walt Disney World Resort
Face Coverings Required Face Coverings Optional Upon entering and throughout all attractions ✓ All theaters, including theater entrances ✓ All transportation, including transportation entrances ✓ All indoor locations, including restaurants, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary ✓ Outdoor common areas ✓ Pool decks ✓
This means that if you are visiting Disney World, you do NOT have to wear your mask outside UNLESS you are waiting in a line for dining, transportation, or an attraction. That is huge news and just in time for the hot, humid Floridian summer!
